Washington Square News asks the tough questions.

Dining on Mommy & Daddy's nest-egg omelets.
(warning: a curmudgeonly "when I was in college" recounting upcoming)
When I was an undergrad at good 'ol Rutgers U., the dining hall vittles were regularly the worst "food" I'd ever attempted to digest. Saturday evening dinner, for instance, usually consisted of a choice of 1.) a grayish meat-like slab that a dying mongrel dog would piss on or 2.) nothing.
So, not surprisingly, I got visibly pissed when I happened upon the above poll on the NYU student newspaper Website. Those spoiled fucking rich little douchebag pricks—36% (as of 8:30 am this morning) answered "no" (26% yes). Probably because their weekly food allowance already allows them to eat at fucking Nobu seven nights a week. Do Mommy & Daddy also pay for your condoms? Fuck you, you current and future society drains.
previously in NYU:
1. Ad Council PSA confuses wasted NYU students.
2. It IS hard for black kids to fit in on the UWS.

I've had it with those sanctimonius little shits. For a year I had a group of them living across the hall. 3 girls treating the building like a dorm (late night conversations in the hallway, giggling, screaming, stomping up the steps 5 am sunday morning after a coke binge, playing music at all hours). Meanwhile I'm paying $1700 month in rent and proud as a peacock I'm able to afford it to leave by myself in the East Village. To them that means nothing. They don't pay a dime. This is a piece of shit practice apartment for the real $7k a month one they'll get when they're older. I try not to, but sometimes I can't stand the upper class (not that I'm not part of them - I guess I mean the upper upper class).

I had a similar moment the other day when my roller derby league lucked into practice space at Boston University's FitRec (or RecFit, whatever) center. This place didn't exist when I went to college. I didn't get a 3-story climbing wall or hot tubs or a recreation pool. Not that I'd have used it anyway, since it's probably hard to do bong hits on a climbing wall, but still. My going-on-11-years undergraduate loan payments are a pittance to BU's budget, but it's hard not to feel like I'm funding rich kid Romper Room.

Maybe IResentEntitledCollegeKids.com could be the new Post Secret?

Whoa, jealous much?

Not everyone that goes there is rich...

Please don't assume that everyone who goes to NYU is a rich kid - my entire group of friends while at school there were on a combination of scholarships and loans that we're saddled with for the forseeable future. We ended up there through years of hard academic work and the worst loans ever (my car loan has a lower interest rate) and our tuition hikes paid for the current crop's state-of-the-art film facilities, just like our predecessors paid for the crappy Steenbecks and film splicers we learned on. And the food was crap. Most likely that chef was hired to cook for the new overpaid, ineffective president, and you really can't blame the student body for that - we never got to vote for the shot-callers.

I went to FIT full time for advertising. In the summer, I was going to enroll in a marketing class at NYU and a Design class at Parsons.
I looked up the instructors and the Marketing at NYU teacher was my ad strategy teacher from FIT and the design teacher also taught at FIT.

The difference is I paid about 2k/semester at FIT compared to 30k+ at the other schools for the same education.

Hahahaha.

I have yet to meet a rich kid living in NYC and going to NYU who describes themselves as rich. Because it's not cool to be rich. But let's face it - if you can afford to go to a school with tuition like that, even if HALF that shit is supported by loans/scholarships, guess what? You're rich!

And no, not jealous. I moved here on my dime, when I was mature and evolved enough to appreciate it.

Hi, I'm an NYU student with a partial scholarship, and I've borrowed the balance. I don't have a meal plan. Unfortunately, a new chef didn't make me any more likely to eat in the dining halls. Is that okay? I'm scared.

I went to NYU as well, and lived in the projects growing up. I have $50k in loans, and only because I worked full time and took classes at night. Enough with the discriminating....everyone goes to NYU.

Well genius, a quick look around the internet (It's called research. I learned about it in college.) finds that Rutgers and NYU are both in the middle of several top 50 lists of the best colleges in the US. So maybe I got about an equal education as your average NYU whiny douchebag; I got it for literally 1/10 the cost. And I paid for mine.

Well, equal does not equal better...and even if you get the benefit of the doubt (big doubt) and say they are equal...living in New Brunswick knocks at least 10 percent of your education.

well, I can't defend New Brunswick. You got me there.

If this cook is anything like Reagan's presidency, I would say this is not a good thing for NYU.

Most housing for non-freshman have kitchens, plus, if you can find a way to afford living in NYC year-round, an apartment cheaper than the insane amount charged for housing.
And lots of NYU students come from wealthy families, others commute from the outer boroughs, others just have very loving parents who are willing to forgo 1/2 of their income for the future of their children. And then there's loans. Lots of loans.

Just because we said we wouldn't eat at the dining halls doesn't mean we are rich kids who have that much money lying around to eat out every night. NYU's meal plan options are over-priced, just like our tuition and most of the things in NYC. So if we are already spending our parent's money, taking out second mortgages and piling up on loans, it is that much cheaper to go to Trader Joe's and stock up on more quantity that lasts longer and is healthier as well. As Andy said, NYU housing options all have kitchens, aside from four freshman dorms, so if we can make our own food, why not?
